Socialist
W.E. B Dubois
In (1868-1963) was a major African American scholar, an early leader in the 20th-century African American protest movement, and an advocate of pan-Africanism; some years after the Civil War . This highest known well established African American was W.E.B. Dubois; who was born on Feb. 23, 1868 in Great Barrington, Mass. W.E.B. was born with a veil over his face; it known to some people as a gift to see the future. As, a youth Du Bois was an newspaper reporting ; and was named valedictorian in high school. Throughout his life ; Du Bois have received many degrees; and he attended Harvard University in 1888 “From 1892 to 1894 he pursued graduate studies in history and economics at the University of Berlin on a Slater Fund fellowship. He served for 2 years as professor of Greek and Latin at Wilberforce University in Ohio.” “His dissertation, The Suppression of the African Slave Trade to the United States of America, 1638-1870, was published as No. 1 in the Harvard Historical Series. This important work has yet to be surpassed.”
Du Bois married Nina Gomer1896 in , and they had two children. From 1896-1897 at the University of Pennsylvania Du Bois became assistant instructor in sociology. Du Bois' work in protest activity; getting equal treatment for black people.
By 1905 du Bois was the founder of an in “Niagara movement, an African American protest group of scholars and professionals.” Then in 1909 he was one of the founders of NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). He was the editor of Crisis magazine ;and later became a part of an socialist party in 1910. He Struggled for equal Right for his people ; and used the Marxian theory in The Crisis. Du Bois in 1934 became chairman of the department of sociology at Atlanta University until 1944. “Black Reconstruction in America; perhaps his most significant historical work, details the role of African Americans in American society, specifically during the Reconstruction period. The book was criticized for its use of Marxist concepts and for its attacks on the racist character of much of American historiography”.
Marxist state governments can help a nation tremendously; if it is not resistance of its works; often religion prevents one from manifesting constructively. People who are religious can not adapt to the new democracy that has formed from the revolution. It is how willing the people are, to want change and better for their selves and family; without them feeling guilty about whether are not they are faithful to their god or family tradition. Some Christian of a primitive nature had to finally come to terms; that there ways had to change in order for them to have in existence.
African accepted the economic policy of socialism for their new governments. . This government was different then the Society Union ; because Africa felt that the method is only exploiting the people and country of African.
African running their African country through a nation political movement, was well needed to assure the livelihood of the Africa people . While deprived African formed good health, education and money.
African wanted more and better education ; they felt that by having a good quality education ; is the only way to the modern society and essential to be free from primitive belief and tradition, that can limits one from hanging over and growing throughout the evolutional changes of the evolving society .
Du Bois, believed that black church were hustlers , whom felt that educated black people were liable for an religious .
In 1959 W.E.B Du Bois Meet with Mao Zedong of China.
China assist the Zambia and Tanzania nation ; with building a railroad that run between the two.. he felt there was no other nation that could help the people of Africa ; only china have the knowledge that can help enhance the comprehension of the African race.
Du Bois went to live in Ghana with his wife at the request of the president of Ghana Kwame Nkrumah . Du Bois died in Ghana on Aug. 27, 1963, on the eve of the civil rights march in Washington, D.C. He was given a state funeral, at which Kwame Nkrumah remarked that he was "a phenomenon."
Ho Chi Minh
There have much country have suffered from poverty and death because they were unable to be more flexible with the change so they can survive through the global economy. Vietnam past president Ho Chi Minh was a man that believe in Marxism theory on socialism.
Ho Chi Minh a socialist; that once was in jail and in an asylum before he became President of Vietnam during the years of 1890-1966.Ho Chi Minh is one of the most influential leaders of socialism. Ho is from “ an village of Hoang Tru, Nam Dan district, Nghe An Province ( North Annam); Vietnam he was born, on May 19,1890: his name at birth was Nguyen Sinh Cung; most Vietnam children are given a” “ milk name” at birth. Throughout Minh life changed his name many times before coming upon his name of Ho Chi Minh. One of the other names were Nguyen Tat Thanh .
As Nguyen Tat Thanh, Ho went to school and work as a teacher assistant; he also worked on cargoes ship that sails to Africa. In 1913 Thanh visited the Untied States; he lived in New York City; were he witness Asian immigrant treated with equality. Ho took numerous jobs throughout his stay in United States. “Yet found time to attend meetings of black activists such as the Universal Negro Improvement Trust In Harlem , An organization founded under the sponsorship of the famous Jamaican-born black nationalist Marcus Garvey. Many years later, he told a delegation of peace activists who was visiting Hanoi at the height of the Vietnam war that he had been strongly moved by the plight of black peoples around the world and had contributed generously to the movement.”
“In later years, Ho Chi Minh would claim that he had also lived in Boston , where he worked briefly as a pastry chef in the Parker House Hotel, and that he had made a short visit to the Southern States, where he observed the lynching of blacks by The Ku Klux Klan. Living in Moscow in the 1920s, he wrote articles that described these events in vivid details. It mentioned that he was working as a cook’s helper in the Parker House Hotel. In Boston.”
As, Quoc( Ho Chi Minth); he assisted the Soviet revolution; against capitalist enemies Qouc wrote in some of his writings about China oppression of imperialist, Asia and Africa exploration by whites and United States;rising of the Klu Klux Klan.
Quoc believed that the combination of Marxism and ” Oriental ethnology” can produce positive results in a nation , that is need of revolution; to create a parliament of government for the livelihood for the people sovereign. “Confucianism is based on three important acts of submission: of subject top their sovereign, of a son to his father, and of a wife to her husband; and the five cardinal virtues: humanity, justice, urbanity, prudence, and sincerity” Having the intellectually knowledge of Confucianism can be a great essential for someone life; so Ho agreed.
Ho Chi Minth did in fact respect the right to practice a religious belief ;it is written the constitution of Vietnam ; and if one violates the constitution and religious believers; it will be in fact a violation of the law. Ho Chi Minth believed in; to each its on ; this did not effect his belief in socialism, Marxism. Ho believe that by having for all “ equality; cancels out poverty” which can form a more unified nation of people. That can help the nation grow more productively; and using Marxism to established order in countries that were in need of assistance.
Some considered Jesus as a revolutionary leader; which his country is called the kingdom of heaven. Jesus advertised what the kingdom of heaven can do for you and its benefit; if you were willing to live a saved life according to his word of god, that commanded it; in order to inherit the everlasting life of living in what Jesus called the Kingdom of Heaven. In one of the obvious commandments was the lack of socialism; which displays an act of paranoid-ism amongst the people of Christianity; that created a nation of nationalism and imperialism.
When a country is suffering from human evolution; it is usually caused from that nation lack of knowledge and acceptance of new Technology; which stemmed from the belief in god that create fundamental of primitive Christians. When some country took on Christianity; it is found that the country began to suffer from that lack of materialism; which is needed in order for civilization to have conductive livelihood. “I f the material basis of life changes; human behavior, moreover, is determined by the material environment, and so the history of human civilization is the story of adaptation to material environment.” The cosmopolitan creates in new Parliaments of democratic offices for the people of the world.
In December of 1924 Ho Chi Minh left Moscow for south China, where he set up then first avowedly Marxist organization to promote revolution in Indochina.
Some other countries had to go though a new revelation in under to survive through natural selection .The past president of China Sun Yat- sen; country was suffering from evolutional changes. It suffered politically economically as well as poverty; death of the Chinese were coming to in true reality; because China could and would not adapted to the changes of world. Survival of the fittest could not be seen in arm reach. It was suggested that china should take upon Marxism solution to keep the livelihood of China.
Sun thought that Marxian doctrine theory on socialism, would not help China Livelihood; “he felt that Marx was Social Pathologist instead an Social Physiologist. Sun believed it would cause more harm to the people of China. He felt that nationalism was the only way to help the livelihood of China; assuring the people of China would be an independent nation. That the sovereignty would belongs to China. Sun believed that it was not a matter of natural selection; that it was “natural and human forces”.
Nationalism along with imperialism can very well fall for certain groups to not adapt to the changes of their environment. If adaptation can not take place, then the survival rate will be low because those whom can not adapt; will then, very well would not survive. I feel that socialism is the key element to keep the survival rate up of all people. Revolution has to takes place in other to create and put democracy in affect; one must create a parliament. Revolution will overthrown current government official; because it will bring order to the new democracy and create a new and improved intervention; that would solve the social problem of a country that is suffering from negative evolutional change.
New technology was introduced to China which created less work for the less experience causing “natural selection” therefore only knowledge will rise and tradition will fall. China had to create a whole new democracy for their people because of the changing of technical, economical society in present and in future.
Most of us the people in the black community think of , Vietnam as one of the most vicious countries in world ;because mostly black men was put in the front line of the Vietnam war to be slaughtered to death. But, little did the know that the past president Ho Chi Minh tried his best to intervene in the cruel treatment of the African American in the United States. Every man has the right to protect his country ; if he feels that livelihood of his people it is being threaten . His war tactic has proved; that he was one of the zenith, of invincible strategic nation of wit. This man went from an asylum, to being the president of, one of the most feared nations in the world; whom saved the sovereignty of his people. He is an positive example, for what the white man call, the minority people of the world. There is a place for every one, in the winner circle.
Langston Hughes
Fooling your self into a false way of life; just because of traditional means. The pseudo life of the so called Christians. Our black parents believed in the Christian god; because they assumed belief has brought them out of slavery. It is like an accident in someone pulled you from a car that was about to explode; you find yourself waking up in the hospital to unfamiliar faces and began to thank them for rescuing you; when in fact it was something else that saved you from that car. They African American has still failed to realize, that it is their own greatness and wit that freed them from the mighty grips of slavery. They were the only race available, in the time of need ; to assit in the civil war that emerge into battle.
Langston Hughes in great Afro- American writer of the Harlem Renaissance, born in Joplin, Missouri on February 1, 1902. Langston Hughes was one of the use to be fools; that was sitting in church ;pretending to believe in god; his pseudo- Christianity made him fill of guilt and emotional pain; because he did not have the courage to tell his family; that he was pretending to love their god. Langston decided that he would lie and pretend to be an saved Christian; to prevent further trouble in his family life. But, it was not the fear of god; it was fear of family and friends that made him come to this decision; some Christian believe that god fear within people ; are people whom are doing the will of god. Yet, in many scripture in the bible, it state that angels were sent by god or god himself to delivery people. God can do no harm to a person it is only his word that condemned us . Like his words condemned Adam and Eve. People intend to respond on charismas thing in a positive or negative way.
Other then Langston being in atheist and poet; he was also in homosexual like James Baldwin. It amazes me how black in religious crumble to homosexuality. It is not an interest to me of his sexuality; but, I guess from church ridicule causes some sort of additional identity crisis. Which makes one feel less then their original sexuality of heterosexuality? One does not have to be what one calls them or assume their are; if it was not intended. But, Langston was real to himself and what he is; and I will always respect that. He knew that there was no god and found bravery one day to say that there was no god that exist. And he embraced what he thought to believe his sexuality of homosexuality that made him feel unity in himself. I believe that he had the right to express his natural self; but, homosexually for me is an of a mind of irrational fallacy but, yet it can contribute to our society as a whole and having us learn how to no be discriminatory of someone and something that is different or non- traditional. It creates unique diversity in the world today.
Hughes provided one of the most eloquent descriptions of the nature of deities in a portion of his poem "Gods."
Yet the ivory gods, And the ebony gods, And the gods of diamond-jade, Are only silly puppet gods That people themselveHave made.
This poem is good rationality. It display that god is what we create him to be; whatever suits your need. Such as imaginary friends or one creates when one feel alienated from the world. God is merely a figment of ones was imagination; that offers comfort when no one can comfort the hurt you have or trying to figure things out that will eventually come to you in some way, shape or form. We most realize that there is good and bad in all of us ; it is just whether or not how often your going to let the bad win as much as the good; and most importantly what one defines as good and bad. Like decided whether you want to go to college or not. Some churches see that it is unfit to go to college like James Baldwin step father; when actually it is a good thing; if one desires for “natural reason”. To tell a child not to go to college is unethical. This day in age in order for you to live appropriately; you need a good paying job; and why not get a job doing something you like; some jobs require a college education. Going to college just to further your education of our society can be beneficial to ones life. College can only enhance someone; not destroy them.
Karen Jackson Ford- reflects on the poem
“Of great Importance”
“I wish the rent
Was heaven sent”
The visual hopelessness and fragility of the poem on the page are translated into an language in the poem proper. Like “by and by,” the idiomatic phrase “heaven sent” does not express a real confidence in divinity to pay the rent miraculously but rather employs the unavailing concept of heaven to figure out forth dumb luck. Since there is obviously no heaven (as the hardship and injustices of Harlem seem to indicate), or at least no heaven that is willing to intervene, wishing “the rent/Was heaven sent” is merely an ironic way to acknowledge that rent will not paid.”
Langston attended college in Columbia University; but dropped out in pursue his writing career; he published short stories in “The NAACP publication Crisis Magazine and in Opportunity Magazine.
Langston Hughes decided to the send his works he done called “The Negro Speaks of Rivers” “to The Crisis. The official magazine of National Association for Advancement of Colored People. Fauset and W.E.B Du Bois, who had helped found the N.A.A C.P, edited the magazine. Fauset accepted the poem immediately. Suddenly she had this Mysterious new talent, a young black man in Mexico, sending her beautiful work month after month.”
“In June of 1921, “The Negro Speaks of Rives “was published in The Crisis. One month later the influential and nationally recognized journal Literary Digest reprinted the poem. Fauset and Du Bois were excited about this new talent they’d discovered. That summer they devoted an entire page to Hughes’s poetry. At nineteen, he’d became a regular in the most important journal in black America.”
Hughes was like in explorer viewing different part of the world at a young age . Places he decided to go was Africa, China and Haiti. For ex- black slaves to feel that there are totally free; there was a system set up for blacks to sail back to Africa and live their lives there. “W.E.B Du Bois himself had helped create the Pan- African Congress, which railed against European colonization of black Africa. However, most of these American blacks had never been there. At age 21, Hughes was on his way.”
On his journey on the ship Hughes begin to clear all his burdens that came upon his heart. “ Hughes later wrote of this experience: “
“It was like throwing a million bricks out of my heart- for it wasn’t only the books that I wanted to throw away , but every thing unpleasant and miserable out of my past : the memory of my father, the poverty and uncertainties of my mother’s life, the stupidities of color- prejudice, black in a white world, the fear of not finding a job, the bewilderment of no one to talk to about things that trouble you , the feeling of always being controlled by others- by parents, by employers, by some outer necessity not your own. All those things I wanted to throw away.”
During Hughes sophomore year at Lincoln; poems about his life on the streets; hanging out in the black community clubs; the title of this book was called Fine Clothes to the Jew. The blacks were applaud by this book ; because they believed it was portraying an negative image of precious Harlem ; Hughes felt humiliated by this thing. Critics of the black reviewed this as “a ‘secret’ shame of their culture, especially its apparently unspeakable or unprintable sexual mores, to be bruited abroad by thick black lipped black whores and roustabouts”. Hughes felt that the viewers whom took such offense and “lacking in artistic and cultural training, suffering low-esteem, and obsessed with white opinion”; so stated by Hughes.
Hughes also, decided to visit Haiti; once he observed that light –skinned people of Haiti were wealthy and could afford clothing and the dark skinned can not afford clothes that were needed he became outraged. When Hughes was returning home with Ingram they ran into Mary McLeod Bethune; she hitched a ride with them back to New York . Along the way they would stop at Mary friends house for food and rest. At this time Mary encouraged Hughes to visit a school in South Carolina. There he enticed the students assembled to hear him speak his poems with encouragement to the black student. Later on Hughes were invited to different school to share his poems with his African people. By this happening it encouraged black student to think in a different way of artistic.
When Hughes visits “Shanghai in China”; Hughes observed that the people were divided ; “he was appalled that whites barred the Chinese from many public places in their own country.” When there is an revolution; in order keep structure, there can be a lot of temporary restriction. The people of China most be suffered from alienation living in there on country.
Hughes is thought to be in atheist because of statement which he made concerning Jesus Christ and his experience in churches. When Hughes traveled “in the Soviet Union in 1932”; a publication came out about a poem he has written called “Goodbye Christ” that was displaying Capitalism in Christian Evangelism. The poem reads:
“Listen Christ
You did alright in your day, I recko-
But that day’s gone now.
They ghosted you up a swell story, too,
Called it the Bible –
But it’s dead now.
The popes and the preachers‘ve
Made too much money from it.
They’ve sold you to too many….
Goodbye,
Christ Jesus Lord God Jehovah,
Beat it on away from here now.
Make way for a new guy with no religion at all---
A real guy named
Marx Communist Lenin peasant Stalin worker ME…”.
This poem is representing the excellent of the most greatest Afro- American mind like W.E.B. Du Bois. The excellent mind of truly free African American society.. The capitalism that is produce from the belief of a god ;have been on the black pastors and ministers driving around in luxury car and staying in expensive houses from their flocks of unintelligible followers. Leaving them with a false prayers; that can not be answered unless it is administered by the willingness of the operated human mind. The poem is an most exceptional piece of art that display a free thought image of reality.
Instead of if it being admired; it was ridiculed; by protesters in Pasadena, California; they were denouncing Hughes as in communist . Black spiritual people joined this protest as if they were the white master enforcing the Christian religion amongst the African slaves; black hypocrites of the community that fell into the vicious cycle of wanting the white American Dream; of the white master. Black Christian whom harass their own black people about god, is in fact, of an dumb nature.
From an Harold Bloom research; he states that Hughes stated his comment was taking out of content basically ;I feel if that statement was made by Hughes; it was done out of fear of his own black race ;as well as Malcolm X was; but, only Hughes was muzzled down so it would not lead to his sure murderous death; by his own black people whom has been brainwashed by the white race; which is a method of conditioning blacks slave into Christianity. Even though Malcolm X believed in a god; he still sparked up his black people to rise against him; in a irrational manner, that plotted to kill him ;that came into play ,with bullets that penetrated his body with dishonor and cruel attention ; because he spoke of his own race faults. Hughes merely just drank the poison less hemlock and continued to manifest. It was in cowardly act, true; but, we can all relate to him with; of the fear that can emerged into you when a mob of people ; especially your on race, begin to heavily ridicule you, with whites.
Later on “ at Wayne University in Detroit, phone calls top university officials threatened troubled if Hughes spoke there”; as they did ,with refusing to have him speak at school. Upon Hughes arrival there was an mob once again ;calling him in atheists and an communist that committed blasphemous poetry against the word of god.
Hughes had to push his way through crowds with the assistants of police official “he countered the picketer, saying, “ I am for Christianity that fights poll tax, race discrimination, lynching, injustice and inequality of the masses. I don’t feel that religion should be used to beat down Jews [and] Negroes and to persecute other minority groups.
With him saying this made his viewers come back to him with loyalty. Hughes still did not express his total feeling concerning Christianity. But, what was stated is certainly a world of socialism and realism.
Hughe’s later was asked to read at the all- white University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Two student editors of the unofficial campus literary paper asked Hughes to send a poem in advance of his visit . He sent “ Christ in Alabama, “ which began,
“Christ is a nigger , ?
Beaten and black. “
The students printed it the day he arrived . The community exploded . There were rumors that Hughes would be run out of town. The sheriff refused to protect him; saying,
“ Sure he ought to be run out ! It’s bad enough to call Christ a Bastard. But when he’s called Christ the “N” word, he’s gone too far!”
They say Jesus is of burnt copper. I guess it means he is the “N” to some. I believe that it is a name the white man has given the black people ; because blacks appear to be ignorant folks; because we have a different culture; but also our skin is a beautiful dark and hair is of kinky knot; and ourround big lips. This makes the white man of fear; and put us up as a tourist attraction to be sold into a world of alienation ,that held only pains of wonders; instead of enlightens of an new world. Whites love, to hear black folks put down their selves and their people. Sometimes things are said, and done by African American, is not to entertain white folks; it is because it is a fact of reality and needs to be addressed. One can not often tell; because of the thin line, between the two reasons for blacks using the “N” word; but, it will definitely draw some sort of attention.
Sometimes black people call their own people the “N” word; because they acted like “house nigger” by putting each other down for whites. It, is often said, a lot in the south more then any other places. The blacks folks only show unity mostly in spirituality of the Christian Catholic Religion ;and not in the African Culture. Blacks heavily believes that Jesus made a way for them; when in fact, the belief in him is slavery. We need to be more self reliant on ourselves and acknowledge the people around ones presences, will make one see, that there is more out of life; because of the technology in today’s society ; that exist now because of people just like you and me.
Hughes has considered the most horrific thing he has experienced in his life was “the Scottsboro” case ; of nine black young men whom was accused of raping two white prostitutes in Alabama. The evidence that was presented in the case against these nine young men ; had lack adequate evidence; but the black boys were found guilty; and eight of them were sentence to death; in a thirteen years old was not. “Hughes wrote several poems and short play about the case, but he found very few others campaigning the boys’ fate.
Not much have change since then; now in 2006 there was some white boys from a lacrosse team was accused of raping a black stripper. Every couple of months the charge on the boys would get lesser in lesser. The white race really do not care about black woman; the black woman in office today are often used for pawns, to assure black votes for white man whom feel that are the superior being.
“Hughes wondered if anybody was even listening to a mild, aging poet anymore. It seemed that his gentle persuasion was being drowned put by invective. He read in the Harlem Liberator, the voice of the black protest movement, that he was unable to “communicate his ‘negro-ness’. It is as if he is saying to make it’ in this white man’s world, one has to sacrifice one’s blackness.” This is statement has treaty to; one most to a certain extent; some other blacks intend to go to the extreme and actually sale there integrity for the high maintenance life of the rich white race. I know if I was raised in Africa I would think much differently about things as well as all blacks raised hear in the United States. Malcolm X father was a preacher and believed that his people should return back to Africa. Yet, he was preaching a whites man god of Christianity. It is because he has be brainwashed to believe that this is true; because the white man failed to convince the black people of the world, that Exodus was still supporting the white race. Just because it appear as if one have , the white man trapped in his own word of god; it does not mean he has actually been detained. When the white race reliance begins to extinguishes; they then pull another trick out of their hat ; that emerges an key to unlock their selve, from what he calls a “devil weave “.
“ On June 26,1960, Hughes won the N.A.A C. P’s annual Springarn Medal. For years Hughes had been overlooked, now he was exalted. In accepting the award, he spoke about what it meant to be a black writer.
“Yet there are some of us who say, ‘why write about Negroes? Why not be just a writer?” And why-not if one wants to be –even it means being “just a writer’….“So I would say to young Negro writers, do not be afraid of yourself. You are world ….”
“Hughes and his work have always lived in what W.E.B DuBois called a “double consciousness.” Black and American, Beholden to rival canons, Hughes the writer embodies the never resolved race question that his poems and characters would never have us forget.” Being aware of ones blackness and what it means to live as an descendant of an African , in America. You almost have to be a double minded person if you are not white. Because one wants to learn how to adapt to ones current environment ;but, not lose oneself, in the process of adapting to the new and foreign environmental atmosphere that is a mist, of the white race tradition.
Langston found love and forgiveness and understanding for all types of people; he stated:
“both of them were very good and kind -- the one who went to church and the one who didn't. And no doubt
from them I learned to like both Christians and sinners equally well.”
